If Your Identity Verification Isn't Approved

If we couldn't approve your identity verification, please don't worry. Most issues are quick to fix, and you can usually try again straight away.

How you'll know

We'll email you with the subject Your identity verification was declined. The email explains exactly why, and your Account → Verification page shows a Try again button.

Common reasons and how to fix them

  • An original ID is needed. Please use the original document, not a photocopy, a laminated copy, a screenshot or a photo of an ID shown on another screen.
  • The ID is a temporary driver's licence. Please use your permanent licence, or another accepted option such as your NIN, BVN, international passport or national ID card.
  • The details on the ID can't be read. Take your photo in good light, with the document flat and every detail clear. If the ID itself is damaged or worn, please use a different one.
  • The person in the selfie doesn't match the ID. The selfie must be of the account owner, holding or using their own ID.
  • The name on your account doesn't match your ID. Update your name in My Profile so it matches your ID exactly, then try again.

Trying again

  1. Go to Account → Verification.
  2. Select Try again. You can use a different document or method if you like.
  3. Follow the steps on screen. We'll email you once we've reviewed it.

Your attempts

Each account has 3 verification attempts. If you've used all three, our team will review your account and email you about what happens next. There's nothing more you need to do in the meantime.

Please don't email your ID

To keep your details safe, we can only verify identity through the secure check on the Verification page. We're unable to accept ID documents by email.
